CJA Research and Writing Support

The attorneys at 2nd-Chair are experienced in federal criminal research, having specific practice experience in the 10th Circuit, 9th Circuit and 2nd Circuit. Most recently we have helped CJA attorneys with compassionate release case memos, Sentencing Guideline research for a major fraud case, and unique search and seizure issues. How can we help you?

Did you know that each CJA case has an allowance of up to $900 that does not require prior authorization from the Court? This allowance can be used for Sentencing Guideline review or case-specific legal research. Why not bring on a second pair of eyes to make sure the Criminal History category is correct, or the Drug Quantities are accurately reflected?

Guide to Judiciary Policy, Vol 7, Part A, Chapter 3, § 310.20.30 Without Prior Authorization

(a)    18 U.S.C. § 3006A(e)(2)(A) authorizes the obtaining of investigative, expert, and other services, without prior authorization but subject to subsequent review, providing the cost of the services obtained does not exceed [$900] plus expenses reasonably incurred.

Some CJA case will call for more support than research on an isolated issue. Did you know that, with approval from the Court, you can seek $2500 in support from a CJA research and writing attorney?

Guide to Judiciary Policy, Vol 7, Part A, Chapter 3, § 310.20.10 With Prior Authorization
